The Winter of the Witch

Title : The Winter of the Witch (Winternight Trilogy #3)
Author : Katherine Arden
Number of Page : 372
Publisher : Del Rey

The Winternight Trilogy introduced an unforgettable heroine, Vasilisa Petrovna, a girl determined to forge her own path in a world that would rather lock her away. Her gifts and her courage have drawn the attention of Morozko, the winter-king, but it is too soon to know if this connection will prove a blessing or a curse.

Now Moscow has been struck by disaster. Its people are searching for answers—and for someone to blame. Vasya finds herself alone, beset on all sides. The Grand Prince is in a rage, choosing allies that will lead him on a path to war and ruin. A wicked demon returns, stronger than ever and determined to spread chaos. Caught at the center of the conflict is Vasya, who finds the fate of two worlds resting on her shoulders. Her destiny uncertain, Vasya will uncover surprising truths about herself and her history as she desperately tries to save Russia, Morozko, and the magical world she treasures. But she may not be able to save them all.

Review:
Vasya's adventure had not come to an end. There would be a war threatening to destroy the real Russia, including the magical world. Vasya would need help, but Morozko could not do much. While spring came, the Winter King became weaker and weaker. So, Vasya took a risk, freeing the demon that she defeated in the first book.

What a  wonderful ending. I didn't expect that the Bear would play a significant role and made me like his character. This series is very solid, with consistent and atmospheric writing. By the ending, I felt sad because I had to say goodbye to all the characters. I watched Vasya since she was a baby. I saw how much she grew from a free-spirited child and became the most wonderful, strong, determined heroine. What a character development. With the whole winter Russian setting, it was truly a gorgeous experience.

There was a connection between what happened in this book and the real Russian history. That's why I could accept that one character's death at the end. I kinda hoped he would live, but then the history didn't happen like that. T_T
