Review:
This book was really atmospheric. The cold winter was always present and almost tangible.
The story continued right after Vasya left her home village and went to the Winter King. She was alone, lost, and afraid. Yet, she wanted to embark on adventure. She wanted to see the world. I guess I became attached to this character already. Despite her being alone and having no one to talk to other than her horse, I was never bored following Vasya's journey across the forest. She was so brave even when she met scary mythological creatures.
Meanwhile, Vasya's brother and sister in Moscow had different lives. Sasha was a priest, whereas Olya was a mother to a child who could also see magical creatures like Vasya. Later Vasya would meet them in the form of a boy, a hero beloved by the Grand Prince.
Such a unique story. It was more of a character driven story, just the way I like it. The plot was slow, but engaging. I love the confusing relationship between Vasya dan the Winter King. I even admire Vasya's courage and her fiery personality. I also enjoy her relationship with Sasha and Olya.
I am now intrigued and I wonder what will happen next. I hope to see great character developments from Vasya in the third book.
4/5
