Review:

Mau bagaimana baik dan penuh integritas seorang Lada Dracul, dia diciptakan penulis sebagai versi perempuan Vlad the Impaler. Tokoh sejarah tersebut tidak terkenal karena kebaikan dan kualitas bagus lainnya. Orang jahat pokoknya. Jadi, saya secara sadar menunggu kapan Lada berubah dari si remaja pemberani dan penuh api di dalam dirinya menjadi penjahat kejam tersebut.

Damn...

Buku ini terlalu bagus. Saya suka betapa kontrasnya Lada dan Radu. Saya suka sekali bagaimana Radu berkutat dengan pergulatan batinnya sebagai orang kepercayaan Sultan Mehmed, tapi juga berteman di antara orang-orang Konstantinopel. Jujur, saya jauh lebih menantikan cerita Radu dibanding Lada. Lebih tragis soalnya. Saya suka bagaimana penulis perlahan-lahan membuat tokoh ini broken. Bagus banget, sumpah. Radu mempertanyakan kepercayaannya terhadap agama Islam, jati dirinya di tengah dua pihak yang tidak bisa hidup berdampingan, moralitas dirinya saat menipu Konstantin serta menjalankan rencana Mehmed, perasaan dan keinginan kuatnya untuk mengambil hati Mehmed. Gilaaaa... So beautiful that I could cry.

Sementara itu, Lada yang masih memegang teguh cintanya pada Wallacia juga tidak kalah menarik sebagai karakter utama. Saya mungkin tidak bisa relate banyak dengan tokoh sekuat ini. Tapi dia adalah kekuatan yang membuat pasukan kecilnya mampu berdiri tegak menghadapi sebuah kekaisaran. Dia tidak takluk saat di-bully sebagai perempuan, dia juga tidak pernah ragu dalam mengambil keputusan. Saya mengaguminya untuk itu. Dan endingnya... Saya mungkin syok kalau tidak pernah menonton adegan Red Wedding di serial Game of Thrones. Tapi tetap saja. Merinding dong.

Saya harus langsung baca buku ketiga. Terlalu penasaran.
